KILKA SŁÓW WSTĘPU

Bystrzyca Kłodzka's national affiliation has changed over the centuries. For hundreds of years, the town was part of Kłodzko County, an autonomous enclave directly subordinate to Czech kings. Its historical borders, defined by the Sudetes ridges, determined the shape of later political divisions. A key change came with the Silesian Wars in 1742, when the entire region, including Bystrzyca, was incorporated into the Kingdom of Prussia. The border became the national border (later the German-Czechoslovak border) for over 200 years. Despite territorial disputes after World War I, the border line in the immediate vicinity of the city remained unchanged.

The current shape of the border was established after World War II in 1945, when the Kłodzko Valley was awarded to Poland. The only significant adjustment was a minor shift near Boboszów in favor of Czechoslovakia in 1958. Today, thanks to both countries' membership in the European Union and the Schengen Area, this border is open and almost invisible, serving as a symbol of reconciliation and cooperation in the heart of Europe.

The rich history of these lands has left a lasting mark on the architecture and material culture of Bystrzyca Kłodzka. The medieval urban layout, Prussian military structures, and Austrian influences visible in architectural details – all these attest to its borderland character. The former border, once guarded and fortified, is today a tourist attraction for lovers of history and the magnificent Sudetes landscapes.

As part of the "History of Our Borders" project, singletrack and pumptrack trails, walking, cycling, and running paths, as well as other sports facilities, are being built on the Polish-Czech border. Our audio guide allows you to explore history in an engaging way. All this is done to create the best possible conditions for tourists.
