A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE PROJECT
In each city, and sometimes outside of them, there are monuments and other interesting objects. We often walk by some of them indifferently, while others stir emotions within us. This happens because we often know little about what the sculpture or construction we are passing by represents, or the object we pause at for a moment. This applies to both tourists and city residents, who have these objects at their fingertips.
And yet, the figures represented by monuments, or the events to which they refer, can be really interesting! We can learn a lot about the place where we are or live from their history.
Our proposed solution allows us to change this state of affairs and... establish closer relationships with the monument or object.
We invite you to "revive" your monuments and other historical objects. Let's make sure that residents and tourists learn more about them than just brief mentions on plaques. Let them discover the history of the monument, the figure or the place in an interesting, modern form: by listening to their stories... After listening, let's invite them to visit more and participate in a fun historical quiz.

OUR PROPOSAL
The solution we propose is simple and easy to implement in any city, smaller town, or even with a single monument, monument or interesting natural object. It is based on a QR code known for many years and the use of one of the most popular devices that accompany modern man – a smartphone. Currently, we are also implementing communication using NFC TAGs and Braille.
Each monument "participating" in our project entitled "Learn the Story" is marked with a special plaque indicating the use of this technology. After pointing the lens of this camera at the QR code, the phone will recognize the code on its own.
After pointing the camera lens at the code, the smartphone will start playing the recorded statement of the monument. It is a form of a short radio play, from which we learn interesting details about the history of the monument; the character it represents or the history of a place, city or historical event.
Let us propose the use of our solution for the tourist promotion of the city and the education of its inhabitants. Memorial stories can be recorded in different languages that the system automatically recognizes! You don't need to download the app on your phone to listen to them.
- Enriching the tourist offer through the use of modern means of communication.
- Increasing younger generations interest in the history of people and places.
- An interesting and attractive proposition for international tourists.
- Integrating the local community and tourists through shared use of the program.
- Expanding educational offerings for schools, educational institutions, and organizations.
- Building intergenerational dialogue.
- We select monuments/objects to be voiced.
- We develop and coordinate the monuments "statements."
- We record audio or video material.
- We upload the audio or video material to our system and generate QR codes.
- We prepare the monument signage, possibly coordinating its installation with the conservator.
- Install the signage.
- We prepare the citys and selected monuments websites.
- We organize promotion and media outreach.
How it working
To listen to the history of monuments as part of the "Discover History" project, you need to follow a few simple steps. Below, we present a short, step-by-step "user manual" to provide a relatively simple way to access the mini-auditions.
You need a smartphone with a camera. The camera lens should be pointed at the information plaque located next to the monument. Below is a view of the plaque itself and its example location next to the Karol Musioł monument in Opole.
After pointing your smartphone's camera at the QR code located on the right side of the plaque, the app's welcome screen will appear, followed by a screen with the name, photo of the monument, and the "START" button.
The "START" button starts the audio recording process.
Your smartphone will prompt you with the next steps after you listen to the story or pause it. Please keep an eye on your smartphone screen!
Other available options: brief information about the monument, author of the text and recording, list of other monuments in the city included in the "Discover History" project, downloadable map of monuments, video, and social media links

Monuments in cities remind us of the history of places and people, and allude to important events. They are also works of art. Bronze, metal, wood, or concrete transformed into the form of a monumental obelisk attract attention. We enjoy sitting by them, taking photos, and making appointments.
Project partners
Implementing the "Discover history" project in each city requires the involvement of many people: programmers, graphic designers, writers, actors, sound engineers, and coordinators. It is thanks to them that this project came to life.
Our ambition is to continually expand its reach. Therefore, we thank our current partners and invite additional cities, institutions, companies, and individuals to collaborate!
