Opole: 800 years of history and thousands of reasons to visit! Located in a picturesque part of southwestern Poland, Opole is not only the capital of the Opolskie Voivodeship but also a place with a unique atmosphere where tradition meets modernity. Known as the "Capital of Polish Song," it attracts music fans from all over the country every year. Thanks to the determination of the local community, the Opolskie Voivodeship preserved its administrative identity in 1998 — and today, it proudly invites guests to discover its charm, culture, and unique atmosphere!

Opole is a city with a soul, blending legend with history. According to tales, its name originated from the cry of a tribal ruler who, lost in the wild forest, stumbled upon a clearing with huts and exclaimed: "O! pole!" (Oh! a field!). This is how Opole supposedly came to be. But what was the reality? "Opole" is an ancient term for a settlement — and ours is already over 1150 years old!

The city, situated at the crossroads of ancient trade routes, was bustling with life as early as the 8th century. Its strategic location and natural defensive conditions made it an important tribal center, competing with strongholds like Gniezno and Kraków. In 2017, Opole celebrated the **800th anniversary of receiving its town charter.

Today, it's a modern, vibrant city that hasn't forgotten its past. We warmly invite you to explore — especially the ten unique monuments with audio guide functions that will tell you the city's story through its most important buildings and places, from the town hall to historic bridges. Just approach, turn it on, and listen — and Opole will start speaking to you.
