The town's history begins sometime in the mid-14th century. Here, nestled among dense forests, stood the settlement "zu Heyde"—"at the Forest." It belonged to the knightly Glubos family from nearby Szczerba Castle. Over the centuries, Polanica changed hands, but its true potential was discovered by the Jesuits of Kłodzko. They drew attention to its unique location and healing waters. Already in the 17th century, the local spas were talked about, and in the 19th century, the spa's dynamic development began.

A spa park, a pump room, a theater, and an impressive Spa House—today's Wielka Pieniawa—were built. The arrival of the railway in 1890 opened Polanica to the world. [train departing from the station] At the beginning of the 20th century, it was one of the most modern resorts in Silesia. After the war, it received its current name and quickly regained its reputation – thanks in part to its innovative treatment methods.

Today, Polanica-Zdrój is a harmonious blend of spa tradition and active recreation. Situated at the foot of the Table Mountains, surrounded on three sides by forests, it offers a mild climate year-round. The Bystrzyca Dusznicka River flows through the center, and the town's name comes from a forest clearing crisscrossed by streams.
