As early as the 13th century, a settlement existed here, developing thanks to agriculture and crafts. In the following centuries, the town came under Czech, and later Prussian, influence, which left its mark on its architecture and spatial layout.

However, the 19th century and the era of railways brought real development. Ścinawka Średnia became an important railway junction – to this day, you can still see the extensive railway infrastructure, a reminder of the town's former transport importance. Take a closer look; it's a fascinating example of the region's industrial heritage.

This must have been the vision of artists, too. Scenes from "Afonia and the Bees," the acclaimed 2009 film, were filmed at this atmospheric railway station. One of the most interesting, though less obvious, sites in the area is Kapitanowo Castle. This former defensive manor house likely dates back to the 16th century. Although it no longer resembles a massive fortress today, its shape and location reveal its former function – it served as a checkpoint and the seat of local administrators.
